RESIFIL
Pothole repair

About RESIFIL

Suitable for application even in cold, damp conditions, RESIFIL pothole repair material allows one person repairs and rapid return to service, while providing class leading mechanical and environmental performance.

Application steps

Application instructions

01.
Preparing the pothole

  • Brush out any loose materials using a stiff brush.
  • Ensure the surfaces are dry.
  • No primer is needed as Resifil is self-priming.
  • No cutting out is necessary.

02.
Mixing the resin & activator

  • Premix the A-pack liquid resin with a drill and paddle.
  • Pour the powder B-pack activator into the A-pack liquid.
  • Mix thoroughly by using the drill and paddle for 1 minute.
  • Once mixed, the resin and activator start reacting.

03.
Adding the aggregate

  • Add the C-pack (aggregate) to the bucket and mix for a further 3 minutes to ensure uniformity.
  • Pay attention to mixing the sides and base of the container.

04.
Filling the pothole

  • Pour and scrape out the material into the hole to be filled.
  • Smooth with a metal float. Pay attention to feathering the edges.
  • Sprinkle contents of D-pack scatter aggregate over the surface of the repair. On warmer days, it may help to let the material set slightly, so the aggregate will ‘sit’ more proud on the surface.
  • Resifil is both waterproof and resin rich, therefore no edge banding is necessary.

05.
Application around iron works

NOTE: This is a guide for repairing around iron works. It does not include the installation of the ironworks themselves. For correct installation of ironworks, refer to the relevant Code of Practice.
  • Clean the outside of the frame and all exposed edges and joints to increase the bond strength between the surface and Resfil repair material. Unlike most resurfacing materials, no primer is required due to Resfil’s superb adhesion to metal.
  • Apply the Resifil repair at a thickness of 30-50mm in a single layer. Spread and level using a metal float to finish flush with the surrounding surface.
  • Sprinkle D-pack scatter aggregate directly to the ‘wet’ Resifil material and leave slightly ‘proud’ or lightly tamp to reduce its height to the surface.
  • Over-banding materials are usually necessary around ironwork installations to increase durability by sealing joints and reducing water ingress. However, as Resifil is both waterproof and resin rich, no such over-banding materials are necessary.

06.
Return to service in 20 minutes

  • Allow the repair to cure for the stated time (see temperature schedule below) before opening to traffic.
  • The use of an accelerator (Resifil Sub 5)will increase the speed of cure, particularly at lower temperatures.
Temperature °C Approximate Cure time
without Accelerator
Approximate Cure time
with Accelerator
0°C 60 minutes 30-40 minutes
5°C 45-50 minutes 30-40 minutes
10°C 30-40 minutes 20-30 minutes
15-20°C 20-30 minutes 20 minutes
25°C 20 minutes Not advised

NOTE: Never use more than one Resifil Sub 5 accelerator per pack.

07.
Tool cleaning

Clean tools with a solvent cleaner.

Frequently asked questions

We have endeavoured to provide a summary of the questions we're most often asked, but if you would like us to elaborate or have a different question, please contact us for assistance.

RESIFIL forms a strong, permanent bond with the substrate, which means that a correctly applied repair will last for several years, certainly many times longer than typical cold-lay repairs.

No… just a drill with a mixing paddle, a trowel and gloves.

In most cases, no more than 20 minutes. Even at 0°C, curing takes no more than one hour (this can be reduced to 30-40 minutes through the use of additional accelerator).

No. RESIFIL is designed not just to adhere to the substrate, but also to bind and reinforce the material on the sides of the pothole, making cutting and taping unnecessary.

We would typically advise that RESIFIL is applied up to 50mm in a single layer.

Absolutely. RESIFIL is specifically formulated to provide very strong adhesion to metal, ideal for application around grates and manholes.
